UPDATED
This is WeatherWatch.co.nz’s ‘Official’ Christmas Day forecast!
See below for our most extensive forecast ever, covering 24 main centres
The situation: A large high will remain firmly in place over the North Island on Christmas Day but will weaken over the South Island – allowing stronger winds and cloud to move in.
BOXING DAY, SUNDAY AND MONDAY SNEAK PEEK:
Boxing Day looks a little unsettled south of the lower North Island but settled everywhere else. And Sunday and Monday are looking mostly settled New Zealand-wide, just some showers or clouds possible in Southland on Monday.
CHRISTMAS DAY:
Our pick for the sunniest, driest and calmest weather remains for northern and north eastern parts of the North Island.
The hottest weather will most likely be Central Otago, Canterbury and Marlborough with Wairarapa, Hawkes Bay, Gisborne, Bay of Plenty and eastern Coromandel also fairly hot.
The windiest weather is likely to be in Southland, Wellington and inland parts of Canterbury.

please include and have a Christmas weather forecast for area’s north of Auckland ie; Whangarei (Mid Northern) and the Far North regions.. please.
I really think (imho) that Whangarei and the Far North should be included in the forecasts… it seems we folks from the mid north and far north regions always seem to be left out.
Be great if it poured buckets of rain on Christmas Day… need the rain so badly up here… honestly everything is so dry… will send a pic taken inland today from mid northern region… Hukerenui (fogbow – rainbow country).

It looks like we’re in for a dry one. Dairy NZ have even started running workshops to educate farmers on how to handle a dry summer: http://www.dairynz.co.nz/news/pageid/2145848228

Interesting & thanks for all your good work this year.
I have seen that low too but hopefully it will slide down the Tasman which will make it less of a problem for us in the North. It looks like the first North Easterly for quite some time.
