PHOTOS: Auckland’s “bizarre” foggy afternoon

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Thick sea fog yesterday swept in to Auckland city – a sight that is extremely rare for the city in the afternoon.

The fog was spread through the main shipping channel off the North Shore as far south as Whitford in south east Auckland.

Head weather analyst Philip Duncan described the fog simply as “bizarre” saying it was rare for Auckland to see fog developing in the afternoon – and that usually the fog is clearing in the afternoon in Auckland.

TimeSaverTraffic.co.nz reported thick fog around Whitford and in parts of Takapuna late yesterday afternoon however at the time this story was written the fog hadn’t had a significant effect on traffic.
