A low pressure system lies over the North Island today. Expect rain in the east possibly heavy, drier conditions out east with fog potentially appearing in places. The South Island lies under a ridge with mainly settled weather although areas of cloud may affect eastern areas Canterbury northwards.

Northland, Auckland & Waikato
Morning fog then sunny spells develop, light winds. The odd isolated shower possible in the afternoon. Northland could get the odd shower at times during much of the day, expect long dry periods too.
Highs: 15-16

Central North Island, Bay Of Plenty
The odd shower, a few sunny spells too mainly afternoon. Light winds tend southeast.
Highs: 13-17

Eastern North Island
Rain with east to northeast breezes, the odd heavy fall especially about northern Hawkes Bay and Gisborne.
Highs: 14-15

Western North Island
Cloudy periods with sunny spells at times, southeasterly breezes.
Highs: 16-17

Wellington
Cloudy periods with south to southeast breezes, a few sunny spells may break through at times this afternoon.
High: 15

Nelson
Mostly sunny after any early cloud clears, light winds.
Highs: 15-16

Marlborough
Cloudy periods with south to southeast breezes, could even be an early drizzle patch.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury
Sunny and cloudy periods with light east to northeast winds near the coast. Morning fog patches possible.
Highs: 13-14

West Coast
Sunny with light winds, some cloud about Fiordland.
Highs: 15-16

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny today after any morning cloud clears, light winds.
Highs: 9-12
