A depression moves over the North Island today heading east. Expect wet weather for most although the West Coast of the South Island can expect mostly sunny weather, southeasterlies will be fairly gusty though. The other issue to watch today is strong to gale force winds about coastal Marlborough, Wellington, Auckland and Northland.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Strong to gale northwesterlies this morning with showers. Showers becoming heavy for a time late morning as winds change west to southwest, there is a risk of thunderstorms with this change too. Showers clear later in the evening as winds tend more southerly.

Eastern North Island
Rain about Wairarapa and scattered falls are likely elsewhere. Colder sou’ westers push in later today with temperatures droppng quickly.

Western North Island
Winds change southerly this morning, areas of rain clearing overnight. Dry spells at times too.
Highs: 16-17
Nelson
Rain clears around midday and sunny spells then increase, southerly breezes ease at night.

Marlborough & Wellington
Rain, possibly heavy at times about the coastal hills of Marlborough. Strong to gale southerlies develop late morning then ease overnight. Rain clears overnight too.
Highs: 14-15
Canterbury
Rain, especially about the foothills and ranges inland. Rain eases during the afternoon clearing later in the evening or around midnight. There may be some snow lowering down to 600m for a time in the evening before clearing.

West Coast
Chance of an early shower then mostly sunny with gusty southeasterlies easing in the evening. Further inland towards the main divide expect showers for most of the day which ease and clear late afternoon or evening.
Highs: 14-16
Southland & Otago
Showers and snow flurries to 500m clear this morning then sunny periods develop, cool south to southwest winds ease during the day. Frosty at night inland.
