A ridge clings onto the North Island today while a front slowly works its way north over the South Island. The West Coast of the South Island can expect wet weather, dry out east. Dry generally in the North Island however the odd light shower may affect a few eastern regions.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
Easterly breezes with a mix of sunny and cloudy areas, there may be a general light shower for most early in the morning that will clear. For the rest of the day the odd light shower may continue at times from about Tauranga northwards in the east, Auckland should remain fairly dry for the rest of the day although a shower or two could affect northern suburbs.

East of the North Island
Sunny and cloudy areas with northeasterly breezes, chance of a morning shower about Gisborne.
Highs: 23-24

Western North Island
Cloudy periods and a few sunny spells, mainly afternoon. Northerlies tend more westerly after midday. Chance of an evening shower about Kapiti.
Highs: 22-24

Wellington
Sunny spells and some cloud, gusty northerlies especially afternoon.
Highs: 19-20

Nelson
Cloudy and sunny spells, northerly breezes.
High: 22

Canterbury & Marlborough
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northwest breezes picking up in the afternoon perhaps becoming a bit brisk about Marlborough. An overnight southwest change may bring a shower or two.
Highs: 25-27

West Coast
Cloudy with rain or drizzle patches for North Westland, heavy periods of rain for South Westland. Rain eases about South Westland in the evening but rain intensity then picks up about North Westland, rain clears North Westland overnight. Northerly breezes.
Highs: 18-19

Southland & Otago
Sunny spells with some high cloud, northerly breezes. Some light rain at times across Otago. A late afternoon southwest change about Southland brings a few showers which move into Otago in the evening, showers clear at night. Becoming chilly overnight inland.
Highs: 21-23
