PLEASE ALSO ADD YOUR REPORT TO FIREBALLS AOTEAROA:

About 830pm Cornwall Park, bright flash lights up ground. Look to the south and a red streak, atypical scar shape is blistering red-orange back to black.

Large bright meteor. I spotted while i was looking up at sky at Okoroire hot pools (waikato area close to tirau) appeared like a light turning on in sky was so bright, the tail lasted for a few moments and had quite a large tail (although I have not seen many, ive seen one other one which burnt red and green) this one the tail was a bright white with colour seen at both edges of the tail, think it was a reddy orange colour but appeared as an outline to the bright white. The date today is Sunday 5th may 2024 and occured at about 8:38pm

Based in Aokautere, Palmerston North. Saw a bluey meteor/comet streak across the sky to the northwest and then burn up with orange and disappear – in the space of a few seconds. Sorry not sure how best to describe. Very cool. Larger and way more obvious than a shooting star.
